Earlier in March club families gathered on this beautiful day to celebrate with sweet treats and an Easter egg hunt. We even had a special appearance by the Easter Bunny!

Couples’ Night Out
In celebration of Valentines Day, the SCMOM club hosted a relaxing night out fundraiser to include dads as well. Twin parents had a chance to get creative, bond and make new friends. Thank you again to Dove Yepes for bringing out the artist in us all!
Check out our FaceBook page for information on our upcoming yard sale fundraiser in May. If you’re needing to purge, want to make some extra cash and help raise money for the club, this is right up your alley!
Guest Speaker: Ann Roberts, Speech and Language Pathologist
During our January 20, 2016, monthly meeting, SCMOM welcomed Ann Roberts, ASHA, CCC, LCST, MRCSLT, HPC, to speak with us. Mrs. Roberts is a Speech and Language Pathologist with Brevard Public Schools, and she was happy to share knowledge and information with the members.
Mrs. Roberts shared some helpful tips for MoM’s of little ones:
- Try to get the pacifiers and sippy cups away from toddlers sooner rather than later, as they will retain the sucking reflex, which could affect their speech development;
- Play with and encourage your child to play, rather than filling their schedules with lessons, sports, etc;
- Speak often with your child who is learning to talk, pointing out things so they can learn what to call certain objects (Ex.: Let’s walk through the door together. I’ll open the door, and now we will go outside.);
- Read with your children;
- If you think there might be a problem with your child’s speech/language development, go with your gut and call Early Steps for an evaluation; and
- Keep your sanity above all else!
Some resources which Mrs. Roberts shared included:
The handouts provided can be accessed through SCMOM’s Facebook page (members only).
We thank Mrs. Roberts for sharing her knowledge and time with SCMOM!
Green Meadows Farm
Earlier in October SCMOM families met at Green Meadows in Kissimmee to enjoy a tour around the farm. We had a fun day learning to milk cows, having hands on experiences with goats, sheep and chickens, riding ponies as well as riding on the farm’s train. Afterwards we had a picnic lunch and the kids got to leave with their very own pumpkins.
Painting Party Moms Night Out
For our most recent Moms Night Out, the club hosted a wine and paint party with fantastic local artist Dove Yepes.
Check out our fantastic turtle paintings (and the one misfit whale that got thrown in somehow).
Be sure to join us for our next event. Our general meetings are the third Wednesday of every month, plus we have some play dates coming soon with this cooler weather!
Twin Panel Success
Last night, our July general meeting consisted of a Twin Panel. Three sets of twins (boy/girl, boy/boy, girl/girl) of varying ages came to our meeting in order to share what twin life is really like.
Having the opportunity to ask older twins questions was invaluable, with them being honest and open about “twin issues” or issues that at least we as parents think might be issues!
Some of the greatest takeaways were:
“Shared birthday parties can totally be okay. We [parents] over worry about the twin factor and how to handle it.”
“They all really liked being a twin. No one was scarred for life by any of the things we are up at night worrying about, so don’t sweat the small stuff.”
“We worry too much!”
“I didn’t realize what an important role my eldest daughter played in my twins’ life!” -from a mother of twins on the panel
“Like a shirt I had for them when my twins were toddlers, “Born together, Friends for ever” I think my twins act like normal siblings and yet have a closer bond. They told me later that they cover for each other, have inside jokes, and watch out for each other.” -from a mother of twins on the panel
“That they kind of see themselves as the same person.”
“I found it extremely entertaining! Loved the young adults so much. … what I found most beneficial… being so proud of the young women I am raising. Maybe as a mother it was interesting to see J speak up so much more than D lol. I just really enjoyed watching the interaction between the twins and their twin.” -from a mother of twins on the panel
“That we can relax. As long as we are good parents and try our best our twins, our singletons will all turn out just fine.”
Thank you to the amazing twins who came to speak to us and answer our questions!
Family Day at Wickham Park
On Saturday, multiple (yes, pun intended!) families joined us for a family picnic at Wickham Park! We had a shaded pavilion by the playground, with crafts, a ball pit, a water table, and of course lots of great food for the adults.
It was a hot day, but we lucked out with a breeze, some shade, and great company!
We hope to see you at a future event!
June Meeting & Craft
Last night we got together for our June General Meeting, and while we talked a teensy bit of business, we mainly had a great time socializing and crafting. Our First VP Karyn came up with a photo block craft, and it was a success. Even the not-so-crafty members enjoyed themselves!
I know I can’t wait to give this to my husband for his very first Father’s Day!
Couldn’t make the meeting? Join us at our June picnic event! More details via our Facebook page.
